This cake was a comedy of errors. Almost every design detail was created to mask a mistake. This was the first time I drew and colored my design out. My design was out the window when on my 4th attempt to cover the bottom tier with my homemade chocolate fondant, I realized that I needed to move on, rethink and keep going.
Life lesson learned here could be summed up in the lyrics of a Rolling Stones song,
" You can't always get what you want
But if you try sometimes you might find
You get what you need"
In this case what I needed was a beautiful cake for my lovely stepmother's Sweet 16 /64th birthday, (Leap Year baby) and that is what I got.
Side note : I've employed the above lyrics many times as a parenting tool. My boys are never impressed, particularly when I sing them .

Topsy Turvy Zebra Cake
This is a cake of firsts. My first time doing zebra stripes as well as the topsy turvy aspect.
As with every cake , I learned alot. I will definitely exaggerate the angles more next time. In comparison to a level cake they appeared quite slanted until I had them stacked. Overall today in my cake world, I'm feeling pretty pleased.

Black and Blue Pie
Who wouldn't want a piece of this for breakfast?
Three food groups are clearly represented.
I’m not sure what’s funnier, that silly look on his face or his awesome bed head.
